Jane Ball

Chief Specialist for Population Health Management
Discovery Health

Jane is Chief Specialist for Population Health Management at Discovery Health with responsibility for disease management programmes, oncology risk, and low-income products. This includes leading a unit focused on furthering disease management through shared value arrangements and an ongoing investment in innovation and new technology. Discovery Health is a subsidiary of the Discovery Group, a South African–founded financial services organization.

Jane has a B.Pharm degree and a M.Sc in Drug Utilisation Studies from Nelson Mandela University. Her early career includes time with a Canadian healthcare IT company and the implementation of a Pharmacy Benefit Management system in Brazil. Since then, Jane has worked in the managed care industry in South Africa, gaining extensive experience in developing, setting up and managing large-scale disease management programmes including new targeted programmes underpinned by sophisticated data science models.

Recognising that finding meaningful solutions to healthcare challenges requires behaviour change by all stakeholders and that changing behaviour is a science that requires specific expertise, Jane completed executive Masters in Behavioural Science at the London School of Economics (LSE). She completed the M.Sc in 2018 and actively fosters the use of behavioural science in the development of Discovery Health’s population health management programmes.
