James has three decades’ experience supporting change across public and private sectors, with focus on healthcare and education. His passion is helping individuals and teams continually improve and hold the gains, and linking policy to practice. Having worked as an NHS doctor, he has also held local and national leadership roles in the English NHS (Director of Quality at the Royal Free and Director of National Improvement Strategy in NHS England), and been Health Strategy Officer for the Paris-based Galileo Global Education.

James is an Executive Coach working with leaders in health and other sectors, and is a founding partner of the Quality Bureau supporting organisations and systems internationally to develop leadership and embed innovation and continuous improvement for better value. He also edits BMJLeader, a journal aiming to build better leaders for health systems across the world. He lives in London with his wife Jenny, a breast cancer surgeon and two teenage children.
