James has three decades’ experience supporting change across public and private sectors, with focus on healthcare and education. His passion is helping individuals and teams continually improve and hold the gains, and linking policy to practice. Having worked as an NHS doctor, he has also held local and national leadership roles in the English NHS (Director of Quality at the Royal Free and Director of National Improvement Strategy in NHS England), and been Health Strategy Officer for the Paris-based Galileo Global Education.
James edits BMJLeader, a journal aiming to build better leaders for health systems across the world. He is also a senior advisor at Douglas Knowledge Partners and an advisor to Joyous, which uses AI to gather and act on staff feedback with clients across industries. He lives in London with his wife Jenny, a breast cancer surgeon and two teenage children.
